Story by Adele Menichella

For mid-century Santa Barbarans, Miratti’s Liquor stores were a familiar part of the

landscape, with shops downtown and in neighborhoods on the east, west and north

sides of the city. A homegrown family-owned and operated enterprise, Miratti’s

epitomized the corner liquor store concept. A man could pick up a six-pack of Lucky

Lager and a cigar after work, a homemaker might stop in for a bottle of California

burgundy and a fresh loaf of Italian bread, and resident hosts and hostesses from

Hope Ranch to Montecito could place standing orders for monthly delivery of cocktail

stalwarts like bourbon, rum and vodka.
