The Legendary Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore
Santa Barbara
ack when Los Angeles was still a cowboy town,
the film industry was located up the coast in
Santa Barbara. Today, the studios have moved to
Hollywood, while “America’s Riviera” remains a
playground of the glitterati, who come for weekends
and the annual film festival.
At the heart of it all is Four Seasons Resort The
Biltmore Santa Barbara, originally built in 1927 on 22
acres of prime beachfront land in Montecito. The
Resort officially opened on December 16, 1927, with
an elegant gala for 700 guests who dined, danced,
strolled around the flower-scented gardens. In the
ensuing decades the resort welcomed hundreds
of celebrities and dignitaries, from presidents and
royalty to Hollywood stars.
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has managed
the property since 1987. Ty Warner purchased it in
2000 and retained Four Seasons as the management
company and changed the name to Four Seasons
Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara. Since then he
has spent more than $240 million on renovations of
the property. The most recent upgrades include the
addition of four new bungalow suites, each with a
private plunge pool; and a revamped Ty Lounge
with a new Luna Terrace, an exclusive Moroccan-
style outdoor space for private dining and events.
The resort has also introduced various wellness
programs, including a four-day, three-night retreat
from June 7 to 10, 2017, with fitness activities, spa
