Th tree for me is a symbol of life, how it gives back to humans in so many ways and is often not appreciated,” explains Karen. She is a member of the California Society of Print- makers, Carpinteria Arts Center, Santa Barbara Art Association (SBAA) and Goleta Valley Art Association (GVAA), as well as the Santa Barbara Printmakers, who organize shows at least three times a year. “One of the missions of the Santa Barbara Print- makers is to show that it’s a highly valued art form. People picture it as being multiple prints, which it can be, but each piece is an individual work of art,” explains Karen. “Th y are a great group of artists who love to share. Go to a show, and a printmaker will tell you all about the techniques used. Sharing what we do is part of being a printmaker.” Karen can’t imagine a life without art. “It’s kept me centered, it’s given me joy, it’s helped me find a community of artists, and it’s helped me observe life in diffe ent ways,” she says. Through her art and generous spirit, Karen continues to seek that pre- cious connection with her audience. “My goal is to create an image that the viewer would like to enter, a unique environment that welcomes you.” u Contact Karen Schroeder at to see her work.
